Enter your basic + DA, expected annual increment, and years to retirement to see how your EPF balance compounds — split by employee contribution, employer contribution, and interest.
The employee contributes 12% of Basic + DA, all of which goes into the EPF account. The employer also contributes 12% of Basic + DA, but that's split: 8.33% of wages — capped at a ₹15,000 wage ceiling, so at most ₹1,250/month — goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), and whatever remains of the employer's 12% goes into EPF. For anyone earning above the ₹15,000 wage ceiling, more of the employer's share ends up flowing into EPF rather than EPS, since the EPS portion is capped but the total 12% isn't.
EPFO declared 8.25% per annum for FY 2025-26, unchanged from FY 2024-25. This rate is reviewed and declared by EPFO annually, so it can and does change in future years — adjust the rate field above to model a different assumption for future decades.
No — this calculator projects only the EPF corpus, the lump-sum provident fund balance. The EPS portion doesn't compound as a running balance the way EPF does; instead it entitles you to a monthly pension at retirement based on a separate formula tied to your pensionable salary and years of service, which is a fundamentally different calculation from a compounding balance and outside the scope of this tool.
EPF withdrawal is tax-free if you've completed 5 years of continuous service, including service transferred between employers via the same EPF account. Withdrawing before 5 years makes the employer's contribution and accumulated interest taxable, and can trigger TDS if the withdrawal exceeds ₹50,000.
Worked example: starting Basic + DA of ₹25,000/month, growing 8% annually, over 20 years at 8.25% interest with no opening balance: employee contributes about ₹16.5 lakh in total, the employer's EPF share adds about ₹13.5 lakh, and interest compounds the rest — landing at a projected corpus of roughly ₹60.3 lakh.
